Should You Give Auntie Ethel Your Eye or Not?

Should You Give Auntie Ethel Your Eye or Not? Should players give Auntie Ethel their eye in return for her help in removing the tadpole? This is one of many choices in the beloved game that is Balder’s Gate 3. This brief breakdown of pros and cons may help you decide whether or not you want to give Auntie Ethel your eye. It’s a choice that happens relatively early in the game and it will have lasting consequences. You’ll meet Auntie Ethel on your way to the Sunlit Wetlands , the area south of the Blighted Village . You’ll find her again in her Riverside Teahouse . She offers to remove the Mindflayer Parasite in your brain in exchange for one of your peepers. She even lets you choose which one, so kind. Something I struggled with because I wanted my character to stay pretty. The whited out eye gives you the “Paid The Price” condition which gives you a...

Is Darksiders 3 DLC worth it or not?

Is Darksiders 3 DLC worth it or not?

There are two Darksiders 3 DLC packs. The Crucible and Keepers of the Void. They are sold separately and are very different. Let’s discuss the Pros and Cons of Darksiders 3 DLC Packs, so you can decide if the DLC is worth your money or something you can live without.

The Crucible:

Starting with The Crucible. This battle arena will sound familiar to those of you who played Darksiders 2. This Crucible is run by Targon though, Kargon’s brother. The Crucible is great if you love fighting wave upon wave of enemies and testing your skill as a warrior. There are 101 waves in total. The Crucible isn’t without reward though. Targon gives you tokens that you can use to buy crafting materials, new armor with new stats, and enhancements for Fury’s whip, Scorn. The catch is that you have to do the whole thing in one sitting or you don’t get the rewards.

If you die you have to restart at each progress point which comes every 5 waves. So dying on wave 25 and starting back at 20 would get old fast. If you quit you take what you’ve earned and start over the next time you come back. It reminds me a lot of the Cave of Ordeals from The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. That being said if you’re looking for a real challenge The Crucible will give it to you.

During each round in the arena, Fury will gain points for avoiding taking damage from enemies using anything other than Nephilims Respite will decrease that score dramatically.

Without spoiling anything, Round 101 has a very familiar foe that fans of the Darksiders franchise will remember from the very first Darksiders game. He’s shown up in every Darksiders game and it’s fitting that he is the final boss of The Crucible.

Pros:
New equipment and gear.
Progressively gets more challenging as you continue.
Throwback to previous Darksiders Games.

Cons:
Restarting if you have to quit.
Unable to use anything other than Nephlims Respite without losing points in the arena.

Keeper of the Void:

Keepers of the Void is very different from The Crucible. There are four sections, each one corresponds to one of the four Hollows you acquire throughout the game: Flame, Lightning, Force, and Stasis. Each section is basically a dungeon complete with enemies, plenty of treasure, and a boss battle. Each portion of the void has puzzles that require the power of Fury’s Hollows. Each section must be played in order of the Hollows Fury receives in the main game. They can’t be played in any random order. Playing the Flame Void will unlock the Storm Void which unlocks the Force Void and so on.  At the end of all four sections is the Big Boss and the prize for cleansing the Serpent Holes is Fury’s Abyssal Armor.

Pros:
Abyssal Armor
Dungeon like playthrough
Puzzles that keep you engaged
Plenty of treasure hidden around every section

Cons:

Can’t access each section until you’ve acquired the corresponding Hollow
Only one armor set as a prize

So is Darksiders 3 DLC worth it? If you like dungeons, puzzles, and treasure then Keepers of the Void is worth buying. If you like testing your skills and battle prowess in an arena of seemingly endless waves of monsters, The Crucible is right up your alley.

In my opinion, I would not pass up Keepers of the Void. I enjoyed the puzzles and dungeon feel of this DLC. It felt like there was a purpose in cleansing the Serpent Holes for Vulgrim and I loved collecting the treasure scattered about. Each Boss fight was challenging and felt satisfying to beat. The same goes for the puzzles. I would recommend Keepers of the Void over the Crucible to anyone who is on the fence about whether to get the DLC.
